Day 263
The Word for Today
Calling
Prepared In Advance
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.”
World English Bible (WEB)
Today's Reflection
Paul writes Ephesians 2:10 after declaring that salvation is by grace through faith, not the result of our works (Ephesians 2:8–9). Good works, therefore, are not the price of God’s acceptance but the fruit of being made alive with Christ. To call us God’s workmanship means that he is the gracious Maker shaping a redeemed people in his Son. He has already prepared a life of faithful obedience for us to walk in—not to earn an identity, but to live from the identity Christ has secured. Calling begins with God’s action, rests on Christ’s finished work, and becomes visible through ordinary acts of love and service.
This truth steadies us in a generation that often treats calling as a platform, promotion, or perfectly planned career. At work, anxiety can make every decision feel decisive; comparison can turn another person’s progress into evidence of our failure. Relationships, money pressures, and constant digital noise can further blur what faithfulness looks like. Yet God’s prepared works are not limited to impressive achievements. They may include honest labour, wise stewardship, reconciliation, patient listening, generosity, or unnoticed service. We do not need to manufacture significance or copy someone else’s path. In Christ, our worth is settled, and we can attend calmly to the good placed before us today.
Begin today by receiving your identity before reviewing your responsibilities: you are God’s workmanship in Christ. Ask him to show you one good work already within reach rather than demanding a complete map of your future. Silence unnecessary notifications for a set period, give your full attention to the person before you, and approach your work with integrity. Make one wise money decision, offer help without seeking recognition, or take a humble step toward peace in a strained relationship. At day’s end, reflect without self-condemnation: Where did I notice God’s invitation, and where can I respond tomorrow? Calling is often discovered by walking faithfully, one prepared step at a time.
Today's Confession
“I declare that I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. I do not earn his acceptance through achievement, because Christ has secured my place by grace. I reject anxious comparison and trust God to guide me into the work he has prepared. Today, I will walk faithfully in the opportunities he places before me.”
Today's Prayer
- 1Father, help me rest in the identity you have given me in Christ.
- 2Show me the good work you have placed within my reach today.
- 3Free me from anxious comparison and distracted striving.
- 4Give me wisdom and courage to walk faithfully in my calling.
Pause & Reflect
What good work may God have already placed before me that I have overlooked while searching for a bigger calling?
