Purpose

Jeremiah 29:11 was first spoken to Judah’s exiles in Babylon, not to people facing an easy or immediate breakthrough. Through Jeremiah, God told them to build homes, seek the city’s welfare, and remain faithful during a long, seventy-year wait. False prophets promised a quicker escape, but Yahweh promised something better: His steady covenant faithfulness. His “thoughts of peace” meant that judgment and displacement would not have the final word; He would preserve His people and bring them home. Read within the whole Bible, this hope rests finally in Jesus Christ, through whom God reconciles His people to Himself and secures a future no exile can destroy.

This promise does not mean every career move, relationship, or financial decision will unfold as we prefer. It means God’s faithful purpose is larger than our disrupted plans. In a generation shaped by unstable work, money pressure, anxious thoughts, comparison, complicated relationships, and relentless digital noise, we can mistake uncertainty for divine absence. Curated lives online may suggest that everyone else is ahead, while unanswered questions make us fear we have missed our purpose. Jeremiah reminds us that God remains present during long seasons, not only at their resolution. In Christ, our deepest future is secure, so delay, disappointment, and obscurity cannot cancel God’s loving attention.

Today, begin by naming the situation that makes your future feel uncertain, then place it honestly before God.
