First Things In The Right Order

Matthew 6:33 | WEB
“But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.”

World English Bible (WEB)

Today's Reflection

In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks about treasure, divided loyalties, and worry over food and clothing. His invitation to seek God's Kingdom first is not a formula for getting everything we want. It is a call to place our Father's rule and righteous ways above the pursuit of security. The Father who feeds birds and clothes flowers knows what his children need. Jesus does not dismiss those needs; he puts them beneath the care of a trustworthy Father. Through Christ's death and resurrection, we are welcomed into that care by grace, not by earning it. We seek God because we belong to him.

That order can feel difficult when work demands more, money feels tight, and digital noise keeps showing us what everyone else seems to have. Comparison turns someone else's possessions or relationships into a measure of our own worth. Anxiety can make every decision feel urgent, while prayer becomes something we squeeze in afterward. Jesus offers a different centre: your life is not sustained by constant vigilance or defined by visible success. Seeking his Kingdom may mean choosing honesty over advantage, presence over scrolling, or generosity over status. These choices do not remove every pressure, but they express trust in the Father who knows your needs.

Today, put first things in the right order with one deliberate pause before opening your messages or beginning your next task. Tell your Father what you actually need, without polishing the request. Then ask, 'What would faithfulness to you look like in my next decision?' Choose one concrete response: complete your work honestly, review your spending carefully, give someone your full attention, or ask for help with a practical need. Seeking first does not mean neglecting responsibilities; it means bringing them under God's direction. Take today's next faithful step, and leave tomorrow's unknowns with the Father who already knows them.

Today's Confession

“I declare that God's Kingdom and his righteousness come before my pursuit of security, approval, or possessions. Through Jesus Christ, I belong to the Father who knows my needs and receives me by grace. I will bring him my worries and choose faithfulness in my work, relationships, and use of money. I trust his care without demanding that his provision follow my preferred timing or form.”

Today's Affirmation

I am known and cared for by my heavenly Father. My worth rests in Christ, not in what I earn or possess.

I can seek God's Kingdom in my next ordinary decision. I entrust my needs to him as I take today's faithful step.

Today's Prayer

  1. 1Father, help me seek your Kingdom before approval or security. Guide my next decision in your righteous ways.
  2. 2Lord, I bring you my worries about daily needs. Help me trust your care while attending faithfully to my responsibilities.
  3. 3Jesus, free me from comparison and distraction. Teach me to love the people before me with attention and generosity.
  4. 4Father, give me wisdom to recognise and receive your provision. Make me willing to ask for help and share what I have.

Pause & Reflect

Where is the pursuit of security taking first place in my life, and what would seeking God's Kingdom look like there today?
