Provision

In Matthew 6, Jesus addresses people tempted to worry about food, drink, and clothing—the ordinary necessities of life. He does not dismiss these needs or shame those who feel anxious. Instead, he points to the Father, who feeds the birds, clothes the grass, and already knows what his children need. To seek first God’s Kingdom and righteousness means placing his reign, character, and purposes above anxious striving. This is not a promise of luxury or a life without hardship. It is an invitation to trust the Father’s care and order life under his rule. Through Christ, we are welcomed into God’s Kingdom and freed to depend on him faithfully.

Our generation often arranges life around urgency: deadlines, bills, career pressure, relationship expectations, and the endless comparisons supplied by our screens. Digital noise can make everyone else appear secure, successful, and ahead, while our own needs feel increasingly uncertain. Jesus does not tell us to stop working, budgeting, planning, or caring about relationships. He calls us to stop treating these things as our masters. Money is a tool, work is stewardship, and relationships are gifts, but none can carry the weight of being our source. When God’s Kingdom comes first, anxiety no longer sets the agenda. We can make wise choices from trust rather than panic, envy, or fear.

Today, begin by giving God your attention before giving it to notifications. Read Matthew 6:25-34 slowly, name the need that is occupying your thoughts, and place it honestly before your Father. Then ask, “What would faithfulness to God’s Kingdom look like in this decision?” It may mean completing your work diligently, reviewing your spending, apologising to someone, refusing comparison, or taking one responsible next step without trying to control every outcome. Seeking first does not mean neglecting practical needs; it means addressing them in the right order. Let Christ’s finished work remind you that your deepest need has already been met, and trust God for grace to obey him today.
